I was newly sober from drugs and alcohol and didn't have a healthy outlet in life. I knew I didn't want to go back to the way I was living but didn't really have an outlet. A bunch of guys I was hanging around started rolling together at different garages and the "older more seasoned" guys were teaching us triangles, armbars and such. Basic stuff but it was so fascinating to me. I enjoyed the challenge and the spirit of BJJ. It really helped me those first few years to stay occupied, clean and sober. I currently have 12 years of sobriety.
It is going to suck, BUT, keep moving in the right direction. Keep moving. Don't sit around harping on it, keep your mind off it. Eventually you heal with time, that's not a cliche. I trained 3-5 hours a day during my separation to keep my mind off it. Next thing I know it was a year later and I was dating an amazing woman. Time heals all.
I met Nicolas through social media not knowing what kind of conversation to expect. I enjoy talking with the community and sharing knowledge and inspiration between each other but his story was a little different. It touched my heart in many ways and I felt like others in the community can benefit from his story. He is a brilliant young man with a great heart to make a difference in this world.
