Eliecha Zoey and Ellise Xoe, two Malilay sisters from Cebu, can now officially refer to themselves as world champions. The announcement was made in Cebu City.
This comes as a result of the fact that both of the siblings won the top prize in their respective divisions at the 14th Abu Dhabi World Youth Jiu-Jitsu Championships, which took place on Sunday, November 13, 2022, at the Abu Dhabi Jiu-Jitsu Arena in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Eliecha Zoey, 17 years old, won first place in the youth women's gi blue-belt 40-kilogram division, while Ellise Xoe, 15 years old, won first place in the girl's gi teen yellow-belt 40-kilogram division.
Cebuana Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) players that train at the Atrixion Jiu-Jitsu and MMA Academy of Dubai in Dubai have been establishing a name for themselves on the worldwide BJJ scene.
On her way to winning the gold medal, Eliecha was victorious in all three of her matches during the quarterfinals, the semifinals, and the gold medal round.
In the quarterfinals, she defeated Andrea Isabelle Pascual of Palm Sports Team 777, a fellow Filipino, with a 4-0 in a match that only lasted four minutes.
Eliecha ranked No. 2 in Asia and No. 1 in the Philippines in her category, went on to defeat Alghala Alhosani of Baniyas Jiu-Jitsu Club of Abu Dhabi by submission within one minute and 23 seconds in the semifinals of the competition. Eliecha is currently ranked No. 2 in Asia and No. 1 in the Philippines.
In the match for the gold medal, she defeated UAE's Merah Talal Alsaeedi of the Al Jazira Jiu-Jitsu Club of UAE by the same method she had previously used to win.
Ellise Xoe, on the other hand, won the qualifying round with a submission victory over Latifa Bamadhaf of Al Jazira Jiu-Jitsu Club of UAE. She then went on to win the gold medal round with a submission victory over Latifa Ismail Alali of Al Wahda Club Jiu-Jitsu Academy.
Halle Daphne Alvarez and Nikeisha Angelique Pascual, both of whom hail from the Philippines, won the bronze medal in the category in which they competed.
We should recall that in July last year, Eliecha and Ellise competed in the Abu Dhabi Jiu-Jitsu Pro Tour Fujairah International Pro-Gi event. Eliecha was awarded the gold medal, and Ellise was awarded the bronze medal.
They continued their success by winning a gold medal each in the Mother of the Nation Jiu-Jitsu Cup, which took place in September 2017 in Abu Dhabi.
Their father, Dante Malilay Jr., claims that his girls have already been extended an invitation to join the national squad of the Jiu-Jitsu Federation of the Philippines, which would let them compete for the Philippines in future international competitions.
